ABOUT ME
I’m Hessel, a former pilot and an air safety investigator. I spent 25 years flying various aircraft, from small turboprops to large jets, and teaching others how to fly them safely and efficiently. I also held senior management positions, such as chief pilot, head of training, and safety manager, where I led teams, developed training programs, and implemented safety policies. I logged over 14,000 flight hours. In 2021, I decided to pursue my passion for enhancing aviation safety by joining the Dutch Safety Board, where I investigate accidents and incidents using my knowledge of human factors and risk in sociotechnical systems. I also help organizations improve their safety culture and practices by creating data-driven insights and recommendations.
